This is the latest book and debut novel from author, folklorist and amateur historian Luke Eastwood, who has previously had success with titles such as “Scotia: Lost Sister of Tutankhamun” (now in 3 languages), “Kerry Folk Tales”, “Samhain” and “The Druid’s Primer”. Spring 2045, in a dystopian and authoritarian London, Daniel McBride, the poster boy for English Atheism finds himself on a gruelling, government sponsored, book tour. His worldview is shattered by a singular event that will change his life forever.
The Hereafter: God And Other Fairy Tales, the debut novel of author Luke Eastwood, is an exciting thriller with spiritual overtones set in England, Scotland and Ireland. It crosses genres but pays homage to classic 20th century Sci-Fi, while also drawing on some of the spiritual ideas found in the Nag Hammadi gospels, and the works of many writers that acknowledge an existence beyond ‘everyday’ reality. The core of the story is about an unexpected epiphany, freedom of choice, religious intolerance, spiritual awakening, and what it is that makes life worth living or dying for.

Endorsements...
A thoughtful supernatural thriller debut, exploring belief, morality and a search for meaning.” ALLY BUNBURY, author of ‘All Wrapped Up’ & ‘The Inheritance’
“A riveting, action-packed, page-turner, blending suspense, adventure, and metaphysical inquiry. It fearlessly raises questions about God, religion, consciousness, freedom and the resilience of the human spirit. It invites you to imagine what our future could be, but also what it means to remain truly human in the face of overwhelming control.” ELENA DANAAN, author of ‘The Seeders’ and ‘Resilience : Beyond the Impossible’
Reviews...
"Even though he may have 11 books done, dusted and under his belt, Luke - who describes himself as a folklorist and amateur historian - is still managing to still finding ways to keep things fresh with this latest work by him set to be his debut novel... an “exciting thriller with spiritual overtones”, the book is set in England, Scotland and Ireland. The core of the story, Luke said, is about an unexpected epiphany, freedom of choice, religious intolerance, spiritual awakening, and what it is that makes life worth living or dying for." "The story is intriguing... the ending is a rather unique (and I won't reveal that), but The Hereafter: God and Other Fairy Tales is just a fascinating read because of all the different characters you bring in... but It is the twisting and turning of circumstances, events, conditions that really takes you on a mind journey that I think is extremely interesting. I think what you have done is absoluttery fascinating, it makes for a good read." THE DONNA SEEBO SHOW (USA)
"It’s here that we meet our protagonist, Daniel McBride, the poster boy for English atheism, who finds himself on a gruelling, government sponsored, book tour. His previously settled world view is shattered however by a singular event that will change his life forever. While this may be fiction, it also acts as a stark warning, of a possible dystopian future." FERGUS DENNEHY, THE KERRYMAN
"This genre-blending book takes the reader on quite a ride. The author has said that the book is, among other things, an homage to classic 20th-century sci-fi. It’s definitely a thriller, though the beginning starts a little slower, allowing the reader to ease into the story’s world. By the second half, it gets into real can’t-put-it-down territory... The dialogue feels real and natural. The prose flows pleasingly. The characters are believable. The world is a bit too believable - and that’s the real draw of this story. So yes, I recommend this one. Read it as fast or slow as you like, but take the time afterward to contemplate all the issues it brings up, both spiritual and material." "The Hereafter is Eastwood’s first non-fiction novel, set in the dystopian future of 2045. A terrorist organisation called The Religious Rights Militia threatens society, or so The Ministry would have you believe. Atheism is the way and the government will stop at nothing for it to remain this way. 1984 meets Total Recall in this sci-fi cat and mouse thriller.
The story follows Daniel McBride, an Irish writer from Donegal, who is often nostalgic about his homeland and how starkly different it is to the concrete and impersonal London in which he now resides. Daniel is being sponsored by The Ministry to do a book tour of his new book God, and Other Fairy Tales. His publisher hails it 'atheism for the masses'...
The book was a slow burn at first. Eastwood is very descriptive of the world he has created but when the story gets going there is a thrilling sense of fear and urgency. I would have liked some of the subjects brought up to be explored further, but I became invested in the story as the book went on and was left wondering about the after-math of McBride’s book. The novel does contain some offensive language and touches on potentially sensitive content."
